JUST off Greys Road in Henley is Makins, a well-used recreation ground often referred to as simply “the rec”.
An information board tells of four males in a philanthropic family starting with Sir William Makin (1840-1906), who became wealthy as a barrister in London and while holding directorships.
He bought Rotherfield Court, now part of The Henley College.
The board also refers to Roger and Dwight Makins who followed on. My picture shows one of the entrances: the steps and gate from Greys Road whereupon you will almost always see someone using this facility.
