Unseasonal weather saw the award-winning Toshiba Windsor Triathlon reduced to a duathlon yesterday.
Exceptional rainfall meant the river swim section of the event had to be cancelled for safety reasons for the first time in 22 years.
Despite this the annual race was well contested with about 1,800 participants.
The swim was replaced with a 1,000m run, followed by a 30km bike ride and then a further 10km run for sprint entrants.
For those taking part in the full Olympic event - entrants for which included a 75-year-old and a 76-year-old - the first run was followed by a 42km bike and a 10km run.
The course took in Eton Bridge and Eton High Street and College, as well as Windsor Great Park and Windsor Castle, passing about 900 years worth of British history.
As a gesture of goodwill, all competitors will be offered a free place in either the Speedo Windsor Swim in the Thames on Sunday, July 8, or the Speedo Marlow Swim on Sunday, August 26.

A former head of music at Newlands Girls’ School in Maidenhead has been banned from teaching indefinitely over a litany of ‘sexually motivated’ advances on students.
Police were called to the Jubilee River in Datchet shortly before 10am on Monday following reports of someone in the water.
