A MAN from Henley was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday after a man was seriously injured in Dorset and later died in hospital.

Dorset Police went to Lakeside Road in Poole at about 6.45am on Sunday, responding to reports of a man in need of medical assistance. Officers and paramedics found a man in his fifties in serious condition and took him to hospital.

The man from Henley, aged 44, was initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Police say the two men knew each other.

The injured man died in hospital later that day and police subsequently arrested the Henley man on suspicion of murder.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman told the Henley Standard that the arrested man has been released on bail and “enquiries are ongoing.”

“His next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.

“An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the man’s death.”

His death “is being treated as unexplained” at the moment — the arrest is so that detectives can gather as much information as they can.

“There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area” as this investigative work continues, said the force.
