HENLEY Tennis Club’s boys’ U12s capped off a superb season by winning the Oxfordshire U12 Youth League, sealing the title with a clean sweep of all three rubbers in challenging conditions.
The team delivered two commanding singles performances to set the tone early on. Max Mortimer dropped just one game on his way to a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory. Owen Ashton followed with an equally composed display, winning 6-3, 6-4.
With the league title on the line, the doubles rubber proved to be a test of character. Despite not dropping a set all day, the pair were pushed hard and had to battle back from behind on several occasions.
Trailing 3-4 in the first set, the Henley boys showed resilience and teamwork to turn the momentum and close it out 6-4. The second set was a tense affair, packed with long rallies and clever finishing shots, before they edged it 7-5 to complete a clean sweep.
