Bus services will be different during the upcoming closure of Cookham Bridge over the Easter holidays – with parts or all of Cookham being skipped from routes.
On March 16, a public notice published in the Advertiser pointed to a closure affecting Cookham Bridge.
Vehicles will not be able to travel north through Sutton Road into Ferry Lane, Bourne End, from March 30 to April 12, which covers Cookham Bridge. The closure is for major gas pipe works.
By design, the closure is during the Easter school holidays to reduce disruption, Cadent Gas has said.
Nonetheless, it has caused concerns over traffic in the area, since the diversion route is about 14 miles, compared to 0.8 miles over the bridge, and overlaps with another nearby closure.
Now bus companies have said it affects their bus routes too.
During the closure, there will be no buses serving Cookham on the Sundays of April 5 and April 12.
For the other days, the number 20 bus from Tames Valley Buses will be operating only between Maidenhead and Cookham Railway Station in each direction.
In other words, it will be calling at:
It will not be calling at the next stop, Cookham Village Memorial.
Nor will it call at any of the stops from there until High Wycombe Bus Station, including Bourne End Railway Station, The Common in Flackwell Heath, and Marlow Hills Schools.
Meanwhile, the Carousel Buses Service 37/37M will be skipping Cookham for the duration of the works.
It will be running normally from High Wycombe through Wooburn Green and into Bourne End – but will then skip the whole of Cookham and continue onto Furze Platt, before travelling normally to the end of its route at Windsor Parish Church.
This means it will skip Cookham Village Memorial, Cookham Rise Rail Station, St Elizabeth’s Church, High Road, Broom Hill, The Shaw, Hillcrest Avenue and Cannondown Road.
Customers travelling from Cookham to Bourne End / High Wycombe in either direction will need to travel via Maidenhead and change buses.
Passengers should notify their driver when boarding the bus.
Valid Thames Valley Buses tickets and passes will be accepted on Carousel Buses Service 37 and on Service 36 through Flackwell Heath.
In addition, valid Carousel tickets and passes will be accepted on Thames Valley Buses Service 20.
