HENLEY residents came out strongly against plans for a new one-way traffic system for the town. More than 100 people attended a public meeting on Tuesday, which ended in a show of hands – and only a handful of people voted in favour. A similar one-way scheme was put forward in July 1973, but there was such a public outcry that the plans were scrapped.

The gale-force winds which lashed the country on Friday night last week left a trail of damage in Henley and surrounding villages and caused damage possibly running into thousands of pounds. Henley police received more than

100 emergency calls during the storm and in the area about
30 trees were blown down.
