THE next meeting of the British Modern Military History Society will take place at Woodcote village hall on Wednesday, June 11 at 7.30pm. Mike Nicholas will give a talk about The Battle of The Bulge, December 16, 1944 to January 128, 1945.
This was Hitler’s last gamble to change his fortunes in Western Europe and the stakes couldn’t have been higher.
The Germans took the Allies by surprise and drove a wedge between their armies in an attempt to retake Antwerp. The harsh, wintry conditions and the brutality of the battle was comparable to the experiences on the Eastern Front.
This visual lecture includes Hitler’s motivations for the campaign, the Allied response, the units involved, experiences from the front lines and the nature of the fighting and the atrocities.
Mike is a military historian with a passion for sharing human stories from times of conflict. His specialist subjects include the two worlds wars and the Anglo-Zulu War. He is guide at the Tank Museum at Bovington.
Mike’s chosen charity for this talk is SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity. Entry costs just £8, which includes your entry ticket, a question and answer session and refreshments (beer, wine, soft drinks).
We ask for payment in advance. If you are unable to pay in advance there will be a facility to pay on the door. Students and under-21s go free. For more information, visit https://www.bmmhs.org
