Two charities in Windsor are working together once more to offer a recycling service for real Christmas trees next week.
Windsor Lions will be picking up real, used Christmas trees from outside residents’ houses in exchange for a donation to Thames Hospice.
Organisers said this is a 'real win: win: win' with money raised for Thames Hospice, trees disposed of in an eco-friendly way and the chippings produced used by both Windsor and Ascot Racecourse to improve their facilities, as well as saving residents the headache of disposing their trees.
Mike Sells, one of the organisers at Windsor Lions Club said: "We love working with other partners in the community. Apart from our old friends at Thames Hospice, to have both Ascot and Windsor Racecourses on board is a big boost.
"We are also getting help from other local companies Volker Highways, Urbaser Practical Car and Van Hire.
"We are also delighted to be extending the event to SL1 postcodes this year. It is a real community event and a great start to the year for us. We urge anyone eligible to book now as the demand is always fierce."
Only booked trees will be collected and bookings can now be made at www.thameshospice.org.uk/collectmychristmastree for collection in the Wraysbury, Datchet and Horton areas plus SL1, SL4 and SL5 postcodes.
The Windsor Lions and Thames Hospice tree collections will take place between January 5 and 7.
The two charities have worked together on other occasions e.g. the Lions Black Tie Ball in 2019, The Hospice’s Santa Dash and the Christmas Tree collection event over the last two years which has raised nearly £20,000 so far.
