Maidenhead Thicket Bowls Club enjoyed an afternoon of live music and bowls as they combined a charity event for Diabetes UK with Bowls England’s Big Weekend initiative, aimed at encouraging more people of all ages to give the sport a try.
On a day like no other at the club, members were joined by England international Andy Knapper in welcoming new bowlers onto the sun-soaked green.
The event included a barbeque, live music, an in-house triples match and a game of killer. First timers were also able to play alongside the two-times Commonwealth Games champion Knapper.
The event was brought to a close with a raffle, with the top prize of a helicopter trip won by club stalwarts Maggie and David Scrace.
Event organiser and club secretary Gemma Hanks thanked everyone for their contributions to the day which raised more than £1,600 for Diabetes UK.
