Location of works on Saint-Cloud Way
The council discussed a new toucan crossing planned to link Maidenhead town centre to Holmanleaze on Monday.
The A4 crossing comes as part of the development of the old Magnet leisure centre, with a view to improve facilities for cyclists and pedestrians, promoting active travel.
It is intended to make the ‘most direct route through’ and connect the town centre to the new Saint-Cloud Way development and the wider community.
The plan is for the crossing to be staggered (ie, with a central island), which is necessary because of the speed of the road and its nature as a dual carriageway.
Cllr Josh Reynolds (Lib Dem, Furze Platt) suggested at a meeting of Maidenhead Town Forum that crossing timing between the two parts of the toucan be considered.
He noted that on staggered crossings, when the crossing times are not closely synced, it tends to lead to dangerous premature crossing from waiting pedestrians.
Project manager Simon Lymn said his team would take this into consideration.
Also included in the proposals is the possibility of a new cycle/pedestrian route connecting the new crossing with Forlease Road.
