King Charles and Queen Camilla joined fellow members of the Royal Family at Windsor Castle for the historic Order of the Garter ceremony.
The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain and was established by King Edward III nearly 700 years ago.
Edward III was so inspired by tales of King Arthur and the chivalry of the Knights of the Round Table that he set up his own group of honourable knights.
On Monday, Ladies and Knights of the Garter processed through the grounds of the castle before entering St George’s Chapel for the Garter service.
Prince William was among the Garter procession although he was not joined by his wife, Princess Catherine.
Two days previously she made her first public appearance at the Trooping the Colour parade since announcing earlier this year she was undergoing cancer treatment.
Celebrated composer Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Air Chief Marshal Lord Peach were among the new appointments to ‘The Garter’ this year.
The Duchess of Gloucester was made Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
