Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will stay at Windsor Castle for a state visit to the United Kingdom later this year, it has been announced.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to host the President and his wife Elke Büdenbender, the First Lady of Germany, in Windsor for the three day visit from December 3 to December 5.
President Steinmeier will be the third international dignitary to be hosted at Windsor Castle for a state visit in 2025, and the first German leader to visit the UK on an official visit in 27 years.
The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump’s historic second state visit last month and French President Emmanuel Macron’s in May.
King Charles III’s first state visit upon being crowned was to Germany in 2023, and he has visited the country more than 40 times when he was Prince of Wales, including three official visits with The Queen, then Duchess of Cornwall.
President Steinmeier is the Federal Republic of Germany’s head of state, while his counterpart Friedrich Merz, is the country's chancellor and in charge of running the Government.
The German President attended the King’s coronation in May 2023.
