A Maidenhead man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a crash on the M40 left a young woman with life-threatening injuries.
Police said the man, 20, was driving a grey motorbike with the woman, in her late teens, riding as a passenger when the crash happened at around 8.40pm on Saturday (February 21).
Three vehicles, the bike, a hatchback and an SUV, were involved in the crash on the M40 eastbound carriageway between junctions four and three at High Wycombe at Loudwater.
The young woman remains in hospital and her condition has been described as ‘critical’.
The bike rider has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving as well as causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and remains in police custody.
Police have issued an appeal for information and said the drivers of the two cars involved in the crash, a black VW polo and blue Hyundai Tucson, were assisting the investigation.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Oliver Cahill-Smith, of the Joint Operations Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim of this collision, who is in a critical condition in hospital, and her loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
“I am appealing for any witnesses of this collision or anyone with dash-cam footage relating to it to call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43260088366.
“If you were driving on the M40 or the Handy Cross roundabout at around 8.40pm yesterday and have a dash-cam, please check your recording in case it has captured something that could assist us and get in touch if you have.”
A statement added: “Anyone with footage or any other digital media that could assist us can also send it to the investigative team directly via this dedicated online portal.”
