THE man behind Build Me Up Buttercup, Handbags and Gladrags and catchy jingles is coming to perform at the Crooked Billet.
Mike d’Abo, who took over from Paul Jones as the lead singer of Manfred Mann in 1966, will sing tunes including Ha! Ha! Said the Clown, Semi-Detached Suburban Mr James, Country Dancing and many more.
Together with Tony Macaulay, he wrote Build Me Up Buttercup, and Rod Stewart made his song Handbags and Gladrags a hit.
D’Abo also wrote the jingle “A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat” and keeps up with his fellow songwriters of distinction in a group of friends known as “Sods”.
Mike d’Abo is at the gastropub in Newlands Lane, Stoke Row on Tuesday, August 5. Tickets cost £30 as part of a music cover charge. For more information, call (01491) 681048 or visit www.thecrookedbillet.co.uk
