Henley Exiles denied by stoppage time equaliser

THE wet weather once again forced the majority of matches in the Reading and District Sunday League to be postponed.

Of the matches that did survive, MAPLEDURHAM UNITED picked up a point in Division 3 after drawing 4-4 at THE VOLLY.

Chris Atkins netted twice while Ryan Anderton and Craig Farrell were also on target for the visitors.

In Division 5, HENLEY EXILES were held to a 2-2 draw against THE SIX BELLS at Harpsden. The visitors took the lead early and held on to their advantage up to the half-time break.

The Exiles started the second half well and equalised when Dylan Waters went on a run down the left and cut the ball back for Ben Stodolnic to score.

From here on it was wave upon wave of attacks from the Exiles, with them coming close to taking the lead on numerous occasions. Henley took the lead from the penalty spot when Connor Gough was brought down in the box. Gough stepped up and fired home the resulting spot kick to make it 2-1.

The Exiles had the ball in the back of the net once more but their effort was ruled out by the referee for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Deep into stoppage time The Six Bells won a corner and whipped a ball into the box for their attacker to score and claim a late point.
