In the public notices this week, the Royal Borough has announced plans to dispose of open space in Braywick Park for a new football stadium. There are also several road closures.
Open space disposal
Maidenhead United has long been looking to move from its current ground to a new stadium at Braywick Park.
The club originally agreed with the previous Conservative administration to lease a nine-acre site the park for £460,000.
But in 2023, the Lib Dem/Independent council shut down the move after concerns over the loss of the public open space at the park.
The club is reviving plans to build in the park, this time proposing to place the 5,000-capacity facility at a different location at the back of park.
The football club offered £2.5million, to be partially invested back into Braywick Park.
The council has agreed to ‘start conversations’ on this proposal, and the process begins with a disposal of the open space – meaning the council is giving up control of the land so it can be leased.
In a public notice sent out this week, the Royal Borough says it intends to dispose of around 9.35 acres of open space on a 999-year lease for a football stadium and associated facilities.
Under local government rules, the council must consider any objections before proceeding.
The plan outlining the land in question can be seen by visiting Maidenhead Library in St Ives Road. It is also available on the Royal Borough’s website.
Anyone wishing to object must do so in writing by Friday, March 6.
Objections may be made by post to the property department at the Town Hall, St Ives Road, Maidenhead SL6 1RF, or by email to property@rbwm.gov.uk
Details of objections, and the names of those making them, may be made public.
