Thames Valley Police has said it is ‘factually and wholly incorrect’ that a murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Slough.
In a statement, the force said it is aware of reports circulating on social media that a murder investigation has been launched following the death in St Paul’s Avenue in Slough last night (Thursday).
“This information is factually and wholly incorrect.
“We are also aware that the report has included an image of somebody on the ground.
“We would ask people to consider the family of the man at this time and not re-share this post,” the statement added.
TVP has confirmed that it was called to an incident yesterday evening by colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service, and a man has died.
His death is being treated as ‘unexplained, but not suspicious’ and it is believed to be natural causes at this stage, the force added.
Detective Chief Inspector David Whiteaker, based at Slough Police Station, said: “This post is totally incorrect and is likely to cause great distress to the family of the man who has passed away.
“It is abhorrent to publish such information without any attempt to fact check with Thames Valley Police.
“Out of respect for the man’s family, I would request that those who have shared this post please remove it, and not share it more widely.
“The family of the man who has died are aware and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult moment.”
The force will also prepare a file for the coroner.
