Children of the Royal Borough helped wish The King a happy birthday by taking part in the traditional 21-gun salute outside Windsor Castle yesterday.
The council celebrated King Charles’ 76th birthday at noon, with the annual firing of 21 mini cannons on The Long Walk, near the Brook Street entrance.
There was a special tribute led by the Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor Simon Bond.
As usual, a handful of lucky children attending the ceremony were chosen at random to support the event, under the safe supervision of an ordnance expert.
Speaking prior to the event, Cllr Bond said: “This is a longstanding Windsor tradition and we’re once again excited to be firing the cannons for the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our younger residents to play a part in the birthday celebrations, and always attracts a sizeable crowd of spectators within the historic setting of Windsor Castle’s grounds.”
